Have you ever thought about trying dermaplaning, but stopped yourself because you're worried your facial hair might grow back thicker?

Maybe you've heard someone say that shaving your face makes hair grow back darker. Or you've seen videos of women removing their peach fuzz and wondered what happens a few weeks later.

And while the thought of smoother, fresher-looking skin sounds lovely, the last thing you want is to feel like you've created another problem to deal with.

It's a completely understandable concern, especially if you've never had dermaplaning before.

So, let's talk about what really happens to your facial hair after dermaplaning and whether it's something you need to worry about.

Does Dermaplaning Really Make Hair Grow Back Thicker?

The short answer is no. Dermaplaning does not make your facial hair grow back thicker, darker or faster.

Dermaplaning removes hair from the surface of your skin. It doesn't change the hair follicle underneath, which is responsible for producing the hair.

That means the treatment cannot turn your fine peach fuzz into thicker hair simply because it's been removed.

Your natural hair growth is influenced by things such as genetics, hormones and age, rather than whether you've had dermaplaning.

So if you've been avoiding the treatment because you're worried about suddenly developing thick facial hair, that isn't how dermaplaning works.

Why Do People Think Hair Grows Back Thicker After Dermaplaning?

This is where the confusion often comes from.

When hair grows naturally, it usually has a fine, tapered tip.

But when hair is cut at the skin's surface, the end is blunt rather than tapered.

As it starts to grow back, that blunt tip can sometimes feel slightly more noticeable when you touch your skin.

Will My Face Feel Stubbly Afterwards?

Some people may notice a slightly different texture as the hair grows back, particularly if they have coarser facial hair.

But that doesn't mean the hair has become thicker.

For women with fine, soft peach fuzz, the regrowth is often less noticeable.

Everyone's hair is different, so I wouldn't promise that you'll never feel any regrowth at all.

What I can reassure you about is that dermaplaning doesn't change the thickness of the hair being produced by your follicles.

What Happens to Peach Fuzz After Dermaplaning?

Peach fuzz is the fine, soft hair that naturally covers parts of your face.

Its proper name is vellus hair, and it's completely normal.

You might notice it more around your cheeks, jawline or the sides of your face, especially when the light catches it.

During dermaplaning, this fine hair is gently removed along with dead skin cells from the surface of your skin.

This can leave your face feeling beautifully smooth.

But the hair will gradually grow back because dermaplaning isn't a permanent hair removal treatment.

Will My Peach Fuzz Grow Back Darker?

No. Removing peach fuzz with dermaplaning doesn't change the pigment of the hair growing from the follicle.

If your peach fuzz is naturally light, dermaplaning won't make it grow back dark.

However, if you notice new, noticeably darker or coarser facial hair developing over time, that may be related to hormonal or other changes rather than the dermaplaning itself.

How Long Does It Take for Facial Hair to Grow Back?

There isn't one exact answer because everybody's natural hair growth cycle is different.

Some women may start noticing fine regrowth within a couple of weeks, while others may take longer to notice it.

And remember, dermaplaning doesn't stop your hair growing.

It's designed to temporarily remove surface hair and exfoliate the skin, rather than provide permanent hair removal.

If you're thinking about having regular treatments, the right spacing will depend on your skin, how it responds to exfoliation and your individual needs.

It's not about removing every tiny hair the moment it appears.

Is Dermaplaning Worth It If the Hair Grows Back?

I think this is an important question, because dermaplaning isn't just about removing peach fuzz.

It also helps exfoliate dead skin cells from the surface of your skin.

For some women, that means their skin feels softer, looks fresher and provides a smoother surface for makeup.

If you're someone who notices foundation sitting on fine facial hair or dry surface patches, you may particularly enjoy that smoother finish.

But you don't have to dislike your facial hair to enjoy dermaplaning.

Peach fuzz is natural, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with leaving it exactly as it is.

It's simply a treatment option if smoother-feeling skin is something you'd like.

Is Dermaplaning Suitable for Everyone?

Not always, and this is why having a consultation matters.

Although dermaplaning can be suitable for many skin types, it isn't generally recommended for over active inflamed acne, broken skin, infections or significant irritation.

If your skin is particularly sensitive, or you're using strong exfoliating skincare products, that needs to be considered too.

At Belle's Beauty Haven, I'd much rather talk through your skin concerns and recommend what's appropriate than carry out a treatment that isn't right for you.

Your skin deserves thoughtful care, not a one-size-fits-all approach.

Can I Have Dermaplaning on Its Own or as Part of a Facial?

At Belle's Beauty Haven, you have both options.

If your main goal is smoother-feeling skin and removing peach fuzz, you might prefer a standalone dermaplaning treatment.

If you'd love a little more time to relax and enjoy a fuller skincare experience, you can also choose dermaplaning as part of a facial.

Neither is automatically better. It depends on your skin, what you're hoping to achieve and how you'd like to spend your appointment.

If you're unsure, we can talk through the options together.
